Group Break Results Roundup: GA Mindset BoChro Case

THE BREAK: 16 box case of 2010 Bowman Chrome hosted by GA Mindset

PRICE: $30/team. I was fortunate enough to nab the Orioles.

RESULTS: This was my second time having the Orioles in a Bowman Chrome case break, and the second time my results were less than spectacular. It’s not the fault of the group break by any means, there just aren’t many O’s hits in Bowman Chrome this year.

Jacob Cowan, Nick Markakis, Brian Matusz

I got a whole stack of O’s base cards, including several doubles & triples of a few.

The USA autographs were randomed off at the end of the break, and I was fortunate enough to have landed one. It was a good thing too, since it ended up being my only real hit.

I bought into this break at the wrong time. Not long after release, box and cases prices of Bowman Chrome plummeted, and as a result, the cost of a group break slot went way down. A few weeks later, I was able to buy into another BoChro group break for a little more than half of what this one cost me. Oh well, at least I finally got myself an auto, even if it is a USA sticker. After 2 case breaks, I’m glad to finally land one.

There’s a few more Group Break Results Roundup posts to go, and so far, overall, I think that just like with busting boxes these days, group breaks are hit and miss. After a hot start, the past few have been pretty awful. Let’s hope a rebound is on tap for the next go-around.

What do you guys think so far? After reading a bunch of these posts now, has your opinion of group breaks been altered at all? Are you more apt to join one after seeing how well I’ve done, or are you more apt to stay away based on how terribly I’ve done?

Talk amongst yourselves.

  1. Hopefully Ultimate will treat you well.

  2. I like busting packs too much myself, I doubt I will ever buy into a group break.

  3. So far, I’m enjoying my new venture into busting cases myself. I’m sure that will change the first time that I get a case that’s not going to pay for itself (spoiler alert?), but you get all of the fun of ripping a ton of wax, some work on eBay to try and make it all back and then you can cherry pick what comes out of the case and then “buy” it from yourself to keep it in the collection.

  4. I was in this group break as well. My first one!! The amount of time it took this guy to bust and ship was scary, I thought I had been taken. It put a sour taste in my mouth. Probably wont do it again.

  5. The Orioles are still available (surprisingly) in my upcoming group break. If you’ve never participated in one of my breaks it’s simple – they are cheap! $8 to claim the O’s. Granted I’m not opening super duper high product, but I do have a knack for pulling Cal Ripken cards. Details can be found on my blog if you’re interested. http://cardboardcollections.blogspot.com

Group breaks are like opening a box, a bit of a risk.
