This has nothing to do with this product, it has to do with the other two sets that arrived with Preferred. Prizm Baseball and Marquee Basketball are so awesome they were distracting.

I got some awesome cards out of my Preferred box, and it is a great product so don’t get me wrong.

This is a 4 card per box direct kick type of product.

You are going to get 3 autos, numbered pretty darn low, and a multi piece booklet.

So, how did do.

This is cool. if you are a fan of the Mavs, or any other championship team, and pulled one of these for your team you are gonna be cissed! Even if you don’t and get a team that you may not be a fan off you have a really nice piece of trade bate.

I am a Wolves fan so none of this applies to me. Maybe next year K-Love can skip hos knuckle push-ups, or wall punches depending on you believe, and they can actually make a playoff run…

I digress.

There are low numbered patch versions of these as well.

I myself am not a big booklet fan, but if you are you will be happy with Preferred.

I love these because they are so weird.

i like the trophy design and concept but there is something kinda out there when you hold on of these. They feel a bit off, but in a very fun way, does that make any sense? Probably not…

The rookie silhouette autos are selling for major bank. Big names rookies are in 4 figures, so you have a shot as mucho mojo here.

One thing no one can deny is who is the best #402 MLB draft pick of all time.

It has to be this guy.

I wanted to make a joke and pull out some random dude also picked 402 and try and make a silly argument, but I can’t even find a list of draft picks that goes that high.

To put that in perspective that is 148 spots above the NFLs Mr. Irrelevant, and 342 spots past the final pick i the NBA draft.

It just goes to show in basbeall, more than an other sport you can’t just assume lower draft number means success.

Me Pujols was picked relativly high when compared to this guy.

He was take 1390th.

I mentioned in comments to the Billy Sims post that Harold Baines would be the best middle of the road #1 MLB draft pick. On closer inspection he may land higher than that. The batting average for #1 MLB picks is pretty low. Far more Brien Taylors than Chipper Joneses.

So who is the #1 of the #1 MLB draft picks.

The Kid is the easy pick.

ARod and Chipper Jones are close, but I think Griffey is the clear top dog.

Fun fact, not a sinbgle #1 pick in the HOF…yet.

Same can be said for worst #1 pick all time. JaMarcus Russell, Tim Couch, you can debate it forever, but who are we kidding it has to be JaMarcus Russell.

The strange thing is no one ever talks about who the most middle of the road #1 pick is.

I have the answer.

That’s right, the 1980 NFL drafts #1 pick Mister Billy Sims.

Billy isn’t a HOFer, but wasn’t a bust either. He simply had a nice career.

He made a couple of Pro Bowls, rushed for 1000 yards a few times, and also rushed for 600 a few times.

He wasn’t the best RB, but far from the worst.

He was a good player and a decent #1 pick!

Terry Bradshaw
Brad Johnson
Brett Favre (2009 Favre only)

I think it is a solid list; you would be hard pressed to convince me otherwise.

Of those 6 QBs taken in the 1st round they have a combined 9 Super Bowl loses. Elway has the only wins, in his final two seasons. Before you get too excited about that remember he is still 2 for 5 when it comes to Super Bowls. I believe he and Brady are the only guys to start 5 Super Bowls; Brady at least has a winning record at 3 for 5.

A bit rough huh?

6 QBs in the first round, Elway refusing to play for the Colts, 6 HOFers and 15 Pro Bowlers in the first round. Crazy town!

All the talk tends to be focused on the Elway vs Marino debate, but lets not forget about this guy.

Jimmy boy didn’t want to play in Buffalo so he went to the USL for a few years before finally signing with the Bills.

It would be preposterous to say he was the best of his class. That belongs to Dan or John, depending upon who ya listen too.

I think you can say he is easily the best of the ’83 QB class to lose 4 Super Bowls!

Jim’s rookie up there has never even come close to Marino or Elway’s, but it had a nice run back in the late ’80s and early ’90s. I do really like the ’87 design. I also like how his shoulder pads fit perfectly in frame.

This set has been released before but never really caught my eye. When I saw this box and started to bust it I was immediately won over, it’s a great product, in my mind second only to the base/chrome release.

It’s two autos per box, and they are a nice mix of vets and rookies.

For years baseball has always gone the rookie and vet route more so than anyone else. Recently both Topps and Panini have been putting more emphasis on vets in basketball and football that for years had been dominated by almost exclusively rookie autos. Topps seems to be focusing on current players with Panini going for retired folks. I for one welcome the change.

Anyway…

The base cards are great.

These look like another set and I couldn’t place it for a while, then it hit me.

These look like a cross between Masterpiece (with the artwork looking photos) and the card design of 2004 Fleer Platinum. I don’t mean to imply the concept is a rip off, just pointing out the similarities between 3 sets I like a great deal.

The look and feel of the cards is great. It has a great retro feel without being a true Heritage set. I think the little shield in the lower left corner really makes the design.

They also have the ubiquitous minis.

This goes out to all companies, but Topps in particular. Please stop with the minis, enough already!

These are great looking cards, and I am sure very popular with most but I have never been a fan of mini cards. They just don’t do anything for me.

That said I also got a few of these…

At about half the size of the regular minis I would call these super minis.

At least it is a different design.

Cool enough cards and pretty rare at 2 per box. I was happy to pull an RG3.

I also pulled an insert of RG3 rookie bro Mister Luck.

I like framed cards. These are pretty cool.

Of the few I pulled half had damage. I am sure Topps with send replacements though.

Now for the star of the show, the autos.

A nice hit, but how much nicer if I had pulled it in January.

These are stickers but you can tell there was great care taken to make sure the sticker was placed perfectly so it fits in with the design. Very nice QC on these.

My second auto wasn’t bad either.

I am a fan of Mr. Decker so this is a welcome addition to the collection.

My father and I both opened a box, and he had busted one previously and we only pulled one rookie auto between us. The rookie autos seem pretty rare in this set.

I am not typically a fan of retro inspired products as I feel they are overdone but Magic is just different enough to make it great.

Well worth a look.

There haven’t been any major names in a few days and then I took a peak and saw this guy tearing it up…

The winning bid is $444, the highest price yet!

All for a guy that played in like 2 regular season games last year.

This really gets me anxious to see what Russell Wilson, Luck and RG3 will do. I still say at least one of them cracks a G.

On the flip side Larry Fitz’s card only sold for like $50. I was shocked. I figured he would have been at least 2 bills.
