Bloggers and message board folks like to spout on about the ugly and lazy nature of modern card designs. Sure some sets don’t hit the mark but in general stuff today is pretty nice.
The funny thing is the folks that tend to be most vocal and shout about lazy designs are the same folks that like to look to the past to point out how good it used to be. I offer this counter argument.
Behold 1991 Fleer football. Perhaps the ugliest set all time. It’s both garish and boring, not easy to do. Take it from someone that was there, the good old days weren’t always good.
